A truck delivering Gamecube games to a game shop accidentally spilled its load into a river, where it was carried away.
ETNA, OH--It was a rainy day at Funki Munki Games & Electronics Shop, the preferred source of video games for the local children. A truck, carrying many games for the Nintendo GameCube, pulled up to the back door of the shop. The truck driver exited his vehicle and opened the truck hatch to unload the games. Suddenly, a stray football smashed into the truck and gave it a jolt that, while small, was enough to send the contents of the truck tumbling into the Licking River.
The driver, Peter Crabapple, 44, of Sandusky, OH, reacted quickly, borrowing a fishing net from a local and trying to catch some of the games. When that failed, Crabapple borrowed a fishing hook and waited for the flow of games to be stymied by a well-placed rock. However, by the time he had cast the line, the games, as he later recalled, "dashed away like deer running from hunters." Before long, the games were out of sight. They are currently thought to be in the Ohio River, south of Corydon, Indiana, and are expected to reach the Mississippi in a matter of weeks. A team of kayaks and scuba divers has been sent out to attempt to recover the games.
Funki Munki has sued Crabapple and his Cleveland-based employing company, Harton & Wales Trucking Co., for 4 million dollars. |
